Gladys L. Whipkey

	Gladys L. Whipkey, 88, of DuQuoin, passed away at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.
	Gladys was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in DeSoto, Carbondale, DuQuoin and Tamaroa schools.
	She was a member of the First Christian Church of DuQuoin, Charity Circle of the church and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class.  She was also a member of the DuQuoin Garden Club and the Monday Club.
	She was born August 15, 1911 at Hallidayboro, the daughter of Harley and Maude (Ragsdale) Wheatley.  She married Frank Whipkey on June 12, 1937 at DeSoto and he preceded her in death on August 8, 1992.
	She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Meese of Raleigh, N.C. and Linda Davis of DuQuoin; three granddaughters, Susan Heape of DuQuoin, Laura Cobin of DuQuoin and Erica Windler of Baltimore, M.D.; four great-grandchildren, Dillon and Alex Heape and Trey and Cole Cobin; one brother-in-law, Don Whipkey of Corpus Christi, T.X. and three sisters-in-law, Louise Wheatley of DuQuoin, Virginia Whipkey of DeSoto and Genevieve Hoffman of Murphysboro.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Karl Wheatley and Virgil Wheatley.
	Funeral services were Thursday, June 29 at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in DuQuoin with Rev. Chester Zimmer officiating.  Interment was in the DeSoto Cemetery.
	Friends were able to call from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin and from Noon until 1 p.m. at the church on Thursday.
	Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the Perry County Health Department.
